It's not practical to upgrade a laptop. You really need to replace it with a new, better one.

The GM45 chipset used by your laptop does indeed support newer processors including the Core 2 Duo Mobile series but upgrading for the sole purpose of gaming isn't worth it, considering that any type of gaming on this system will be bottlenecked by the integrated Intel 4500MHD graphics which was released over 6 years ago. Almost no modern game will run on this GPU as it lacks the hardware support to run modern DX11 games. It'll even struggle to deliver stable FPS in older games, Intel GMA graphics isn't made for gaming.

Get a decent gaming PC if you're into gaming.

As explained above, upgrading the processor will not help you with your goal - gaming - because the graphics capability is not there. You might run MS Office a bit faster, but you still won't be playing modern games.

You probably need to upgrade your BIOS to a version that officially support that newer processor.
