Upgrading to Ultimate

I have a desktop that I wanted to upgrade to ultimate from home premium. I entered that product key and it installed perfectly. However, now one week later an error message comes up and says windows could not validate they key. You can close out of the error message, but comes back up a day later. Can you roll back to home premium, as ultimate is already installed? I don't want to buy another product key.

Where did you buy the key from? You can always activate by phone to make sure its legitimate

I go to a University and you can buy them from there.

If you bought your key at University then go ahead and use MS phone activation.

If it fails to activate then call Customer Service which will validate the key and open a Tech Support case to find out what is being done wrong to correct or force the key to work.

Be sure to keep your receipt and packaging permanently as it is your proof of purchase. If you were to reach a dead end with MS (doubtful) you would want to go back to the student store to insist they replace it.

There is a workaround to in-place downgrade to Home Premium using the product key on the machine, if you have the HP installer or unlock all versions in the Ultimate DVD.
