Hello, has anyone recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 for free. I realise officially the free upgrade has finished, but have read articles saying it was still possible ( up to Aug 2018 ) It is for a friends pc, so I don't want to screw it up.
I asked on windows community forum but could not get a definitive answer.
Many thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. First move is to do a system image so you can role back if needed. We have lots of people still getting the upgrade with no problems on a regular basis

Thanks samurai, it's good to know the upgrade is still available. A system image is a very sensible suggestion. Thanks for the reply

Hi davros,

Welcome to SevenForums!

Thanks samurai, it's good to know the upgrade is still available. A system image is a very sensible suggestion. Thanks for the reply

NOTE: The light blue text below are links to the relevant websites and programs, just click them!

Further to samurai's suggestion, there are two imaging programs which are very popular among members here, the first is AOMEI Backupper Standard [FREE], and the second is Macrium Reflect [FREE].

I hope this helps!

In my opinion, I don`t think Microsoft will ever stop the "free" upgrade.

And I`m sure that goes for the ability to use a W7 or W8 key to activate W10, so you can just clean install W10 if you want.

I see no reason for them to stop doing it :-)
