So I have Vista Home Premium, and I downloaded Windows 7 off the Windows site, and backed-up files and such, BUT, I have a 704 mb cd, but its not enough too Burn it too a disk.

I was wondering if extracting would work. And what I should do and such.

Any help helps me.

I am on 32 bit.

Thank you!

You can use PowerIso and mount the image and then just install as normal.

Can you give me detail what that would do, and how to do it.
As this is my first time ever switching OS's and stuff.

Don't do it. Windows 7 is not released yet. The only releases are test builds for experienced users. You won't know how to fix your system if something goes wrong.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
All you need to do is install PowerISO and create a virtual drive and then mount the ISO on it, then just go to computer and click on the mounted image and the install will start, you have the option to upgrade or fresh install and I take it that you wanted to upgrade so just choose that option, then just follow any instrutions and you should have no problems.

Hi,

I assume you want to install on the existing Vista partition? If so,you could extract the.iso onto the HD and run setup.exe.

If you want to install to a separate partition ( which I suggest you do ):

first make another partition and format it

then download the free version of PowerIso, mount the 7 iso, run setup from there and select the partition to install to - during the 7 installation procedure.

PowerISO - Create, Edit, Extract, Mount, Compress, Encrypt, Split ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive, DAA

The free ( unregistered ) version will do what you need.

Just click download on the PowerIso link.

if you backed up your stuff, and you know how to reinstall vista if something goes wrong, it can't hurt to try.

to be honest, the windows 7 installation is user friendly...the only bit where you can possbily mess up is adding the key? even then you can skip the process and add it later..try on VMWare if you want to test it before you try anything.
