Upgrading Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit?

I just installed a Nvidia Geforce 9600 GSO 1gb video card on my 32 bit Windows 7 OS, it seems to run most programs and some games (SOME GAMES) but I'm wondering if upgrading to a 64 bit OS will make it even better?

No. 64-bit is irrelevant unless you have more than 4 GB of RAM or run professional programs that require it.

Bulk of games cannot use more than 2 GB of RAM anyway, so yeah.

Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
There is no upgrade path from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS so a clean install would be necessary. That would mean a reinstall of all applications.

There is more of a difference between a 32 bit and a 64 bit OS than just 32 bits. Internally they are very different.

There are also compatibility issues that need to be considered. Most 32 bit applications will run on a 64 bit OS but there are exceptions. You would need to be sure an important application isn't one of them. Also, a 64 bit OS must use 64 bit drivers exclusively. Some older devices may not have a compatible driver and cannot be used.

Unless you have a specific need for a 64 bit OS an upgrade is usually not worth the trouble.

Looks like you have a PC that would work with 64-bit. I'd suggest doing a through hardware compatibility check before taking the plunge to 64-bit. Like the other post, I doubt the game would play any better than it does in 32-bit.

Thank you for all of your replies! If 64 bit won't make games play or even download better then what's holding me back? I've got a solid connection and no running issues with my system but I can't download a lot of the new game demos.

I'm taking a wild guess... low specs?
Your CPU is weak, your GPU is relatively weak. (assuming your specs are correct)

Specs are correct thats why I thought I'd get better performance out of it, but I guess my system is pretty pathetic according to some people! I'm not trying to create a NUCLEAR computer I'd just like it to perform better without dumping $1000 in it!

savatreatabvr the last thing we want to do is mislead you.
Your specs are low/weak but you already know that.
Their is really not much to do but upgrade your system or get a new one. (Make a new one)
Your motherboard/cpu/gpu/ram/power supply is just not up to todays standard for performance.

What kind of error do you get, or what happens when you can't download?
Maybe you have a problem that can be solved on your current system?

Just to hammer the point further:

No, going to a 64-bit OS, will not be an effective way to speed up a now obsolete or lower quality system.

CPU, video card, RAM, motherboard.... the big performance 4.... skimp on any and you take a performance hit .
.....and if on a laptop with a typical 5400 RPM hard drive, you got that as a crippler too.

OP, yes that system of yours was a gaming rig, but 7 years ago, approximately.
