Upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 8...

Hello, I'm having a problem where I put my Activation Key in to install Windows 8 and it keep coming up an error saying "We can't connect right now", but my Internet is on and Strong. I'm so disappointing about this!

I am upgrading Windows 8.1 now, but when I get to the page where it says "Do you want to keep personal files or nothing" - but in that page, I got one option saying "nothing", I want to use my personal files. But, my PC's back-up is not working. I need some help! :(
