Upgrading XP to 7

Well i tried to update Windows XP to Windows 7, but i can't upgrade it. It says i need to use files & settings transfer wizzard. But that only transfers settings & files. I want to keep the installed applications, but this isn't possible. Is there are a way to upgrade xp to 7 with all applications installed?

No, you cannot in-place upgrade from xp to win7. You'll need to do a clean install, that'll wipe out all your installed apps and any user data residing on the OS partition. So make sure you backup all your data first.

Win7 doesn't install as an upgrade-in-place over XP.

However, there is at least one third-party package that claims to permit it:

I have never read any reports about how well it worked (or didn't). Seems a bit unlikely, due to all the stuff that'd have to be copied from the Windows Registry.

Be sure to wipe your HD to get the cleanest possible slate for Win7 clean install.

If you buy a Win7 Upgrade version it will require using one of the workarounds given here to install Upgrade version to formatted HD: :

Back up your files first and gather your program installers. If you need Product Keys for software, audit the software/hardware using Belarc Advisor.

Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer drivers arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing can be found on Support Downloads webpage for your model device.

Install programs slowly to gauge performance after each. Don't let any programs write themselves into your msconfig>Startup list besides AV and gadgets - all others are freeloaders on your RAM/CPU.

When done, clean and order the HD perfectly with state-of-the-art free CCleaner ("Run Cleaner" and Registry tab) then Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers.

When it is set up perfectly, save externally a Win7 Backup Image so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage your HD or a replacement using the DVD Repair console or Repair CD.

Don't even consider using one of these "workaround programs" to try and upgrade from XP. You will only end up with a lot of garbage on your HD and will be back here soon with more problems. Do yourself a favor and do a clean install. You won't regret it.
