We run a Mitel Networks SME Server 5.6 at my office. We run it on an old DELL we have here (but it's a linux system).

It was installed about 7-8 years ago and our local rep is out of business.
I called several local Mitel dealers but none had any knowledge of this system because it's so old. I am hoping you can help.

We use this to connect all our computers so we can share jpegs, excel files, quickbooks, etc. It is basically just for data storage here in our office and connects 10 computers (macs, pc's, etc) but crucial because we all need access to each others files.

I recently got a new computer that runs Windows 7 and now my old user name and password won't be recognized by the server. It shows the server but doesn't recognize my user name and password. I am wondering if maybe my new computer is not compatible because it's so new? My old one ran XP. The whole office runs XP and IMacs.

Any ideas - this is really hurting our business and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping you have some ideas and think you can fix this.

Have you tried contacting Mitel directly?

You can call or chat with them from here: Mitel Customer Service

I saw your post on Cnet as well and since you have no "tech people" there, you should definitely contact Mitel directly if you plan on using their system.

They do not offer any support - they said they don't have anyone who specialized in this version - it's too old.

Okay, what I should have said is that you need to talk to them about an upgrade to a version that supports windows 7 or else you will not be able to use your pc with your current Mitel product since the product came out many years before Windows 7.

Do you use FQDN or IP address?
Also have you tried to upgrade the server through the server-manager and then blades?
If there are any blade updates they should appear if you click update list
5.6 is very old and we are now using 7.5
Rel 6.0 came out around 2004
There is are newer downloads here

SME Server:Download - SME Server

The current version is 7.5 and there is a beta 8.0 version
