us international keyboard not giving me the special characters anymore

Hi,
I'm not sure what happened, but one moment I can use all my international characters with the simple <alt><char> strokes that I'm used to, and now I can't. For example the ç I normally get from <right alt><,> but now that gives me nothing. I did not install any driver updates, and the keyboard is selected in control panel. I'm running windows 7 home premium 64 bits.
How do I get my international keyboard back?
