When you're in front of your PC, waiting for something to transfer to removable media, that's when seconds feel like minutes, and minutes feel like hours. And data storage scenarios such as that one is where the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0's greatest impact will be felt first. As of CES, 17 SuperSpeed USB 3.0-certified products were introduced, including host controllers, adapter cards, motherboards, and hard drives (but no other consumer electronics devices). Still more uncertified USB 3.0 products are on the way, and they can't get here fast enough.

The voltages with any usb bus are always low to start with. I doubt you would see any changes made there at least no more then a few millivolts at that even.

A new board with 3.0 will be going into two new builds scheduled! The present case will see a few drives moved into it while this will be set aside simply as a spare running Vista most likely. The two new ones however will see 7 HP on one and of course Ultimate here!

Intel demonstrated a working version of USB 3.0 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week. Here's why it will make eSATA and FireWire obsolete.

When USB 3.0 is expected to hit the market in early 2010, it will have been 10 years since the now ubiquitous USB 2.0 was introduced (April 2000). The current USB 2.0 specification runs at a theoretical maximum speed of 480Mbps, and can supply power (for those looking for the hard details, you can find the USB 2.0 specification here (zip file).

Put side by side with eSATA and FireWire 800, USB 3.0 is far superior. eSATA, an external connection that runs at the same speed as the internal SATA 1.0 bus, has a maximum theoretical of 3Gbps. This makes USB 3.0 faster than eSATA and about six times faster than FireWire 800 (full duplex at 800Mbps).

That's what is being seen now for comparisons as far as USB 3.0 is concerned or reviews on new premade pcs or boards having both without any benchmark comparisons between the two.

One review seen on a new Seagate Sata 3.0 external drive knocked that down pretty bad stating it saw some short bursts over the Sata II version with no real improvement while USB 3.0 surpassed everything.
