As far as I'm aware of, the only devices that can take advantage of the new USB standard are storage devices, of which I have none that are compatible at the moment. However, since I do now have USB 3, it seems reasonable to look to the future in buying anything that relates to this. For example, I was looking at a new USB hub, which I noticed was USB 2. I know that it would work in a USB 3 PC connection, but if it were between a USB 3 PC and a USB 3 device, it seems that it would create a bottleneck.

In any case, my question is more general than that...what type of devices might be effected by this, other than what I mentioned, and are any of them available yet?

EDIT: Thought that I would mention that since I had no other use for the USB 3 ports at the moment, I decided to plug my Logitech Trackman Wheel cordless mouse receiver in one of them, and it seems to have given it a slightly better accuracy.

There are number of multimedia devices that have USB 3.0 interface, such as cameras, camcorders, surveillance cameras, high performance speakers, etc. One could argue that most of them are actually storage devices from some perspective.

PS: By accident I've plugged my mouse in the USB 3 port and it took me awhile before I've realized that doing so was the source of the system instability issues.

There are a lot of devices that have USB 3.0 connectivity, especially storage devices. However there are some USB 2.0 that will perform faster plugged into a USB 3,0 slot. I have a USB 2.0 Mushkin 16GB thumb drive. It is twice as fast if plugged into USB3. Some devices aren't so. On my board, to use USB2 devices in USB3 ports, enable legacy devices has to be turned on in bios.

I've had the mouse plugged there since yesterday, and haven't noticed any instability so far. Was the instability that you were referring to something obvious, or something that one would need to know what to look for?

I never changed anything in the BIOS such as that, but since the mouse works properly, I guess it must be set for legacy devices by default.

That was I my Asus P7P55D-E Pro based system and I don't recall the details. I think it was related to the Marvell 91xx and the NEC sharing the same PCIe lane. Connecting the mouse and the SSD drive into this lane wasn't the smartest idea. Yours is an AMD based system and should be just fine...

Mice compatible w/ windows 7 ssUSB 3.0 ports?

I have a Dell XPS 17 3D, and it only has 1 standard USB 2.0 port. I like using a mouse better than I do the touch pad. However, the mice I have will not work in the new USB 3.0 compatible ports. I'm looking to purchase a new wireless mouse and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for one compatible with these new ssUSB ports. Thank you all for any suggestions and your time!

I had one of those. It broke, left-click button double-clicked most of the time. Receiver is too big for a laptop. Logitech M315 is the same but has nano-receiver.
