Question: Is there a way to force the generic USB Audio drivers or the Win 7 Audio system into using a specific device profile?

Reason: I recently purchased a set of older usb headphones with 5.1 capability. But the headphones do not appear to report to the system as headphones. And there are no drivers on the company website for the headphones in question. They just use the generic USB Audio Device drivers.

The issue I am having is that the Audio system is treating the headphones as a set of speakers. With the wrong volume curve, I have to reduce the sound to about 1% and then adjust it in other places like in the game I am playing to make it safe for my hearing.

So that is the situation and the root of my question. I have asked about this in the Audio and Sound section to no avail. So I thought I would try here instead, may be find a way to tinker with the device profile or the registry info. Any thoughts?

If you list your system specs for your computer someone will be with you.
Could be as simple as an updated driver or you can look in your audio control to make adjustments there.
Keep us posted and we will get you squared away.

OK, I have updated my profile with my system specs. I look forward to fixing this problem...and my ears will thank you also.

As for tweeking things, I have attempted reconfiguring the headphones. Adjusting the balance...1% does not go to far up or down. Drivers, I have checked for new ones, I have the current generic ones, and LTD does not offer drivers.

Hello, just poking this to see if any one has any ideas about how to make my headphones work as desired.
