USB Device not Entering Suspend - how to fix

I had to reformat my hard drive back to Windows 7 after Windows 10 didn't work a month ago and recently had a BSOD and minidump. That led me to realize I have a problem with a device or devices.

I ran a power efficiency diagnostics report, and it indicates I have several USB Suspend errors - not entering suspend. I have a USB mouse and keyboard. I took the check mark off "allow this device to wake the computer" for both of them (Properties/power management).

I have a Toshiba laptop. My current power plan is set to "balanced." Under advanced power settings, the USB settings for selective suspend setting for on battery and plugged in are enabled.

I've spent several hours looking for solutions but haven't been able to find any that seem to appy. How do I fix the "not entering suspend" errors?

USB Device not Entering Suspend

Which Toshiba model is yours.
I can check mine to compare the setting, if you wish.
I have Satellite L630 and L735
Note: L630 had problem and repaired the MB.
L735 not working, still trying to fix.

The suggestion at the link for Arya didn't work. I checked to make sure that all of the USB devices showing errors either had "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” or “Allow this device to wake the computer”. (One or the other option was greyed out on the devices that had power management.)

I also saw something about making the Windows disk active. I didn't want to mess with that, however, since a message came up about not being able to start the disk if system files were not located there.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505.

If it's helpful, I also have high CPU utilization (58.57%), and I need a new battery. Other ideas?

High CPU activity means it is working on something.
If your laptop don't enter in suspend mode, it can be for many reasons like internet activity, email check, antivirus, windows update etc.
Close your browser, your email program and try to disable antivirus.

I re-ran the test with the browser, Outlook and anti-virus (Kaspersky) closed/off. Errors are the same, but average CPU went to 7.78%. I monitor the tax manager regularly, and I notice that Firefox is often near the top under the processes list. It also hogs a lot of memory, which is partly related to Facebook. (That's another issue.)

One more issue is a problem with PnP devices. I've tried troubleshooting that, but I haven't gotten very far.

Please note my laptop seems to go to sleep just fine.

If your mouse and keyboard are USB, how you're going to wake up your computer if the USB is suspended?
If you don't have a active device connected (HDD, fan etc) to the USB it doesn't make much difference to battery if it doesn't suspend.

I usually wake my laptop by swiping my hand across the top near the power button. As a test, however, I just tried with the mouse (it didn't work) and the keyboard (it did work). I don't know why there's a difference between the two, since I'm pretty sure the settings are the same.

I don't understand your comment about the active device and the battery.

All I would really like to do at this point is fix these errors.

Can someone help me with this? I checked my BIOS and noticed that Wake-up on LAN is disabled. Would that have anything to do with this?

Can you explain "I usually wake my laptop by swiping my hand across the top near the power button"?
Wake-up on LAN is used to wake up a computer from another computer on a Local Area Network (LAN). It should remain disabled.

My laptop has finger-touch features like volume control lined up next to the power button. The one that I use to wake my laptop is labeled as a media button according to my Toshiba manual. I just touched it now, and a Toshiba Button Support window came up. This window comes up every time I wake up or turn on my computer. It says the button has not been configured and gives a drop-down menu with options such as internet, zoom in/out, etc.

Hi HairfallingOut,
making changes to problem devices will proboly not work, as there allready in an unstable state.
post a copy of your faulty devices, marked with ! or small black down arrow and problem devices.

rolling back from 10 is causing problems.
Did you have any usb's plugged in when you did ??, hope not
