USB Flash Drive Question

Hi all,

I just received my new Corsair 16GB Survivor Stealth USB Flashdrive. Is it possible to make the USB drive bootable...yet still able to store regular files (word docs, pictures, mp3's etc.) without compromising the ability to make it boot if needed? If so what is the best way to go about making this happen? (i already know how to make a flash drive a dedicated bootable)

Hum Philly depends on what you want it to boot!
If it is just an OS then there are plenty of tutorials here but as for making say a 7 ISO bootable drive and storing other stuff I am not real sure.

I'd like "Kaspersky Rescue Disc.iso" to be bootable....and then able to just store regular word docs, jpeg's, and mp3's files (non bootable)

Now I am a big and long time fan and user of Kaspersky Phil and I have had a brief look at the rescue disk 10 from Kaspersky but haven't had much to do with it.

Plus I don't recall ever hearing about anyone using one. Maybe you could ask in one of the forums for Kaspersky in the meantime I will try and find what I can.

I don't know why you couldn't. I've never tried though, but I have had OS Installations on a USB and loaded a folder of drivers also and it worked just fine. Give it a test run and see. You may like Hiram's Boot CD.

I was just about to say.... there`s only 1 way to find out.

A "bootable" drive just contains a (hidden) pointer that tells the BIOS "go load this files", and the files loaded at boot are just that, files.
So in most cases, anything that makes a bootable pendrive will allow you to place other files along for the ride, and they won't be touched.

Yumi multiboot USB creator is what I use. You can put multiple OS on the USB and at boot you will see a choice screen. Look at the list of supported stuff, among Kaspersky rescue disk which is what you wanted to do there is a lot of other good things you my want to try out.

After you have done it, in the drive you'll see a folder with the bootable stuff in it, and then you can place all your other files where you want, even inside that folder (although making a separate folder could be a bit tidier).

It will call the pendrive MULTIBOOT, but that's easy to fix afterwards with any decent partition tool.

Hiyya Philly sorry late reply mate - I got a reply from someone who has great deal to do with Kaspersky and in a nut shell no it is really is a just an emergency feature / function.

See this mate it probably is a good thing to have but as I said only for emergency breakdowns. The info is that you could put other stuff on the stick but in all probability you would have to hack around the Kaspersky to get anything else.

What is Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10?
