Good night, this problem is very annoying:
I bought Logitech Headset F540, when I connect the base to my computer with USB, first I can hear a noise in the sound, then after X minutes the sound stop working.

I sent an email to logitech support and they said to me that there is no problem in their drivers (Because they don have), I tested the Headset on Linux and there was no noise and I was able to hear my music a long time. There is no problem on the headset hardware.

So, I searched a lot, I found some posts here on sevenforums, but I do not find any solution to the problem, I saw too that this problem is not only on Logitech but Sennheiser and ClearChat.

I found a post on Microsoft site to trace USB events (USB Event Tracing For Windows). I launched this commands:
C:\>Logman start Usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBPORT PowerDiagnostics -o usbtrace.etl -ets -nb 128 640 -bs 128
El comando se completó correctamente.

C:\>logman update usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBHUB -ets
El comando se completó correctamente.

C:\>Logman stop Usbtrace -ets
El comando se completó correctamente.

And the output is a capture file containing information about USB events, I made this while plugin the base via USB and when the error is present I stoped the utiliy.

With Microsoft Network Monitor I am able to see what happen, but I can not find the solution for the issue:

After some tries, Windows launched an internal USB Reset port, and finally, the headset stop working.

Please, does somebody know about this? How can I fix the issue? Where is the correct place to post this thread?

You can find the event trace file in this link: usbtrace.etl - Speedy Share - upload your files here

Thank you very much!

If you see my post, I said that logitech did not install any driver, the headset is only using existing drivers as you can see in this image: imgur: the simple image sharer.

Anyway, I removed the device and then re install it by plug in the USB. The same behavior was detected after do this.

Any other sugestion?

Thanks.

More information needed. Describe your connections in detail. Are you connecting to a soundcard jack. If so, what type of soundcard. Is there a multimedia speaker system connected to your computer. What are we working with. We can't see your setup.

I only have to connect the base of the headset on the PC through a USB port, that's all. I am not using soundcard jack, there is no multimedia speaker, there is only eight USB port, two of them used by mouse and keyboard, one of them is used to connect the headset via USB.

This is not a problem of hardware because I tested the headset on archlinux, there is not a problem on the USB ports because I tested on each port. Maybe it is something on usb/audio driver, in the event capture file is everything about the behavior.

What you do is: go to the control panel, go to hardware and sound (or sound, depending on how yours is set up), when it pops up you should see default device/or speakers, and your logitech headphone, right click on logitech, and set as default listening device/ default sound, and that should do it, you can go to the microphone tab/or microphone and set your levels, i usually leave mine as default:)

Off to bed now. Will check your reply later.

It is not about default device, please, read careful my first post, I can hear the sound, the headset is working, but after some seconds or minutes, I can hear noises and then the headset stopped working abruptly.

I include the event trace file of what happened to the headset when the behavior is present.

The link you put is not related with my issue.

Anyway, I tried this:
* Uninstall all the host usb controllers, restart computer.
* Uninstall Logitech Headset F540 device, reinstall by plug in the USB to the computer, restart computer.
* Disable selective USB suspend on energy options.
* Log the events on a capture file (usbtrace.etl - Speedy Share - upload your files here)
* On linux and Windows XP = It worked as it should be

A summary
I do not have any other sound device, I have 8 USB ports: 2 for mouse and keyboard, 1 for headset. I can hear the music, it is working perfectly until some minutes when the headset begins to produce noise and suddenly stop working.

It is not problem of hardware because I tested the headset a long day with my linux. I tested too on Windows XP and worked perfectly. The issue is only present on Windows 7. In my opinion, it is a problem of usb drivers on Windows 7.

This is the order of the exceptions on the event trace file:
* HubErr_SetUsbWakeFailed
* GenErr_UserIoctlFailed x 3
* HubErr_SetUsbWakeFailed x 7
* InitializeDeviceFailure
* GenErr_UserIoctlFailed
* ExcessiveDriverResetsDetected
* GenErr_UserIoctlFailed
* HubErr_SetUsbWakeFailed x 7
Start IOCTL_INTERNAL_USB_RESET_PORT

At this time, the headset stopped working because the internal USB reset port.
Any help is appreciated

Thanks!

Sorry, for not getting back to you earlier, but I'm spread over several forums.

Reading through what has been already done, and what has still not.

Here are my suggestions:

1. List your hardware setup.

2. Screenshot of Audio Devices in the Control Panel.

3. Check Device Manager to see whats going on in here.

4. Update Chipset Drivers.

5. Post Full System Specifications.

Once you have posted the required information. Someone will get back to you.

Hey juaxor, I have the same headphones as you do and I suffer from a similar problem, the way I found of fixing this is to not use the usb to connect it to your pc, the usb is primarily for enabling the microphone but if your not too bothered about using the microphone then just connect it via a headphone jack from the wireless unit to a headphone slot on either your computer, speakers or monitor; just as if you were connecting an mp3 player to the wireless box but your connecting a computer instead if that makes sense then you can avoid any usb problems. :) Hope that helps

P.s if you really need to use the microphone all the time then unfortunately the only solution I have found so far is to use the usb and if the audio crashes then to disable and reenable the headphone and it works again, for me anyways.

I see your attempting to raise the dead. LOL :roflmao:
However, those are pretty good suggestions!

I use a Sony wireless headphone, myself. Has great sound quality!

Yeah, I don't know what became of the OP, he just up and disappeared...Poof!

Thank you michizcool!

I bought the headset because I wanted to listen and speak, mic is important to me. Anyway, I got a way to fix the problem, in this moment I am connecting both, the USB and audio jack, then I configured the main device in audio settings to USB device, and that's all, I can listen to the audio and use the microphone at the same time.

I was debuging audio driver and it seems there is a problem with USBAUDIO.sys, I stoped the debug because I found accidentally the solution to the problem.
