I recently read an article about using a USB thumb drive to install Windows 7.

I would like more information about how to do this. After reading the article the questions I had were:

Where do I get the Windows 7b ISO file? Can I make it from my present install disk or do I have to buy it?

How do I setup my bios to be able to install from a USB device? I am not sure that is possible on the PC I have.

Has anyone used this to install Win 7 successfully?

Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it works. I have done it at least 10 times.

You need to buy Win7, then extract ISO and write to stick using UltraISO trial version: on File tab open DVD, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format stick, click Write button. Boot under USB or HD in one-time BIOS Boot Menu.

Read the tutorial, use option 2 with your present installation disk.

How about boot from legacy devices. have you tried the one time boot options at startup. The key to hit should be listed on the logo screen at startup or on the post screen. If the usb is attached it should be listed in boot options on the one time boot options screen.

Keep tapping F12 (about 2x per second) when you see the splash screen (or as soon as you power on). This brings you to the one-time boot menu. Select the HDD option. You should find the appropriate USB device listed there. Just select it to boot from it.
