Hello there, i'm installing the win 7 by usb. i where acctually going to wait with this upgrade, but then my computer couldn't get over the black screen phase. i tried everything, in every mode it would load a little bit and then just stand there for hours. so i thought wth i'll just follow everyone else and install the new os. so i found a good source and read that the install could be done by a usb disk. so i formated the disk, and made it bootable. then i went in bios and put the boot sequence prio to floppy disk. the booting, the file loading and the setup start went fine, but when i pressed formated i got error 0x80070057 . when i press "ok" i notice the yellow typing that said "Windows can not be installed on to Disk 0 Partition 1." I hit the more info button and get this notice: "The computer hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the BIOS Menu." so i pressed the load driver button, it tried to find it, but it didn't. and on the usb disk there where on valid programs for this installation.

i'm thinking the hard drive is broken...

motherboard: MSI K9A platinum
hard drive: Western digital, WD10EACS (1000 gb)
OS: win xp pro

everything is 32 bit

Plz reply, i'm stressed xD

It sounds like you somehow disabled your HD in BIOS.

You mention floppy in boot order. It should be disabled entirely unless you use it for something.

Make the DVD drive first to boot, followed by the HD.

Check that the HD is recognized correctly in BIOS. Look at HD controller setting; try ACHI first, then IDE if necessary.

To check HD condition, burn to CD this bootable WD Lifeguard scan version I am uploading. It will unzip into C: root where you will find the ISO to burn to CD. Use ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify.

Boot CD then run Full HD diagnostics/repair scan. Afterwards you can zero the HD to get it cleanest possible for install.

I tried to read the thread several times but it is hard to understand.

The particular error message you got is rare and normally occurs if there is no HD present.

What is unusual about asking you to check if your HD is still being detected in BIOS, or to remove floppy from your boot order to make DVD drive first, HD second?

You said yourself that you think it is the HD, so I uploaded the best HD diagnostics/repair scan for your make HD. Why would I do this if I hadn't read the thread?

You said you are using a USB drive to install, which could be either a DVD or flash stick. Make sure it is working by trying on another computer. If it is a flash stick then use this method: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

Make sure your partition is large enough for windows. I wonder if you are trying to install on the system partition that is only 100 MB.
