USB keyboard not detected when booting from Win7 DVD

Hi all,

I've had my P55 LE for about a month and a half now, but I just bought a 120GB OCZ Agility SSD that I want to migrate my Win7 install to from my 300GB HDD. I created a backup image using Norton Ghost 15.0 on a third backup drive, and restored the image to the SSD. Alas when I went to boot, I got the BOOTMGR NOT FOUND error, so I tried to reboot with the Win7 install DVD in the drive to fix the problem.

The DVD drive is my #1 boot priority drive, and it started right up, detected an OS error, and decided to reboot to begin the fix. Although this time, it prompted me for a "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD..." and my keystrokes were not detected. I tried several times and I could not boot from the DVD! I had issues seeing my USB mouse/keyboard when booting from Acronis TrueImage 2010 Home Trial (but weirdly, THAT had no issue with the "Press any key..." prompt).

Any suggestions? I would love to fix my Win7 clone and get up and running on the beautiful SSD. :P

If it was happening in the DVD you could insert the keyboard drivers on the repair screen where it shows an installation to fix. Sounds like it is failing to detect keyboard before getting into the DVD, so the only fix would be to try replugging the keyboard or using a PS2 keyboard rather than USB.

You'll need to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times to attempt repairs and then rewrite MBR which apparently was not copied.

If it fails, try recreating the image using WIndows 7 backup imaging and reimage from the DVD repair console. Macrium Free is also good. I'd even try copying using a partition manager. There may be issues copying/cloning to an SSD.

Thanks a ton, I'll try that out.

Basic point, but does your BIOS have the USB Keyboard option checked?

Yes. It has options for

USB Support
USB Legacy Support

I had both enabled, but recently have tried with legacy disabled.

The weird thing is that it works sometimes. And it works if it does boot into the DVD.
