usb keyboard not working

Hi,

I recently bought a Zalman ZM-K400G keyboard, well, it's a cheap product but it was working fine until I replaced my mobo and cpu and reinstalled windows. Now it sometimes works normal, sometimes works but not during boot (so I can't enter bios settings) and sometimes doesn't work at all.

When it doesn't work at all, Windows device manager sees it as an unknown device and no troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc does anything... It looks completely dead; only when I insist on pushing some of the keys its lights faintly glows momentarily (but no effect, it doesn't write anything)...

When I reinstalled windows and then tried to install the mobo drivers, I experienced weird problems (keyboard and mouse didn't work etc.) so I'm still not sure if I installed the drivers or not. (I always have an "unknown device" exclamation on my PC device on "devices and printers" window.)

Hey, did you plug them to the USB 2 ports reserved for keyboard and mouse? The top 2 ports on the backplate.

yes, keyboard is connected on top left usb port on the backside

You may need to enable legacy USB support and some such in BIOS, can you check?

Also try disabling fast boot if there is such an option in BIOS.

BIOS settings are normal, also I can use my other keyboard...

Tried it again, still not working, can't enter BIOS settings; when Windows starting its lights glow a few times but keys doesn't work neither during boot nor later...

Sounds like it is just broken - and not a setup/settings issue.
These things wear out after a while.

Hey, did you plug them to the USB 2 ports reserved for keyboard and mouse? The top 2 ports on the backplate.

Could you expand on this GokAy - I thought all usb's were equal. The only usb mouse/kb probs I've had is using usb3 when no usb3 driver is installed (eg during Windows install).

You are right, they are equal I guess it is just to ensure you connect to USB 2 by using those top ports.

Maybe you can try a USB to PS/2 converter but might end up losing functionality. It should be cheap.

Checking some forums, exchange mouse and keyboard ports.

Also try a CMOS reset

I have more luck with some keyboard if I only use USB 2.0.
Even when the manufacture states USB 3.0.

USB 2.0 I believe loads before USB 3.0
I never use Fast/Quick Boot because sometimes things don't load as they should.

Nobody in the world can type fast enough to need the speeds of 2.0 let alone 3.0.

Everybody with a desktop should have a PS/2 keyboard just for emergency.

USB 2.0 ports are generally supported by the BIOS but like my latest motherboard with USB 3.0 ports I had to install the drivers that came with the board into the Operating System. My motherboard is a Gigabyte and the USB 3.0 drivers are by Renesas Electronics.
