When I send a movie to my Seagate 1tb or even other usb , any thing above 2hrs of play time , I get an error saying ---the file so and so is too large for file system----size4.44 g b---length 02:29:49 .
the Seagate has 780 g b spare and my Phillips one is 16 g b spare.---other movies that I can not copy to u s b are over the 2:18 running time, All downloaded movies come from u tube and converted to mpeg , the same process is used in all
Where do I look for help to fix the problem

Are all of the movies 4+ GBs? Is the HDD and USB drives formatted as FAT? That would be your problem. FAT has a strict limit on file size 4+ GB is beyond it. You;ll need to convert them to NTFS.

Instead of formatting to NTFS you could format the USB to exFAT which would also allow files over 4 GB.

As mentioned FAT32 has a firm 4 GB maximum file size. There is no way around that. NTFS doesn't have this limitation but it has other issues in that it was never intended for use on external drives and compatibility outside Windows is limited. Most modern operating system can at least read it but compatibility with game consoles is virtually nonexistent.

exFAT was designed as an alternative to FAT32 on external drives. It has some of the advanced features of NTFS but fewer problems on external drives. Unfortunately at the present time exFAT is supported only on XP (with a downloadable driver) and later and current versions of the Mac OS. Not game consoles where FAT32 is just about the only option.
