Solved USB-MIDI keyboard controller

I have a Roland PC-200 mkII midi controller connected to the PC via a MIDI to USB converter. The system claims to recognise it, and sets up a USB2.0-MIDI device with two hardware items: USB Composite Device and USB2.0-MIDI (sound, video and game controllers).

The keyboard is recognised - and sends MIDI signals. However, it will only send one at a time now, meaning it will only play single notes rather than chords. This is independent of whatever programme runs with it, indicating that it's a problem between the keyboard and Win7. The keyboard worked properly on Vista32 and previously on XP.

My mobo will not accept a direct MIDI (game port) connection, so I have no choice but to use the converter.

Am I missing any settings in Win7?

i hear what you're saying. i own two controller keyboards with a usb interface, as well as a digital piano with midi in/out.... yep, winxp worked great when i plugged in either my EST (or is it ESI? their logo is hard to read) 49 key controller, or my M-Audio 49 key controller. I can't vouch for vista - installed it once. hated it.

When I first started using windows 7 I thought wow, this new OS is great! much faster than vista, more intuitive blah blah, then i loaded up all my music software, vsti plugins etc, and the final bit - plugging in the m-audio usb keyboard. "searching for hardware" - at this point i thought oh-oh as i remember on xp it instantly recognised it. so i waited, thinking ok its a different OS, maybe it needs to dig deeper to find driver, then i was faced with the devastating news that the device was not functioning, let alone being recognised. FORTUNATELY however, i bought a piece of sh*t USB to MIDI IN/OUT dongle from ebay. it was very cheap, the wiring is way too thin but hey it did the job for my digital piano when i needed to, so NOW, regardless of which USB keyboard I use under Win7, I must use this gay dongle. As for your issue - the mono polyphony - weird. My advice? Hit ebay. Buy another one from hong kong, just not the one you got originally. If you want, I am happy to provide a photo of the one i have - which works wonderfully and yes, it has full polyphone (ie i can play chords).... sometimes its not worth the headaches of waiting for forum replies of people stating obvious answers and things you already knew or tried, so i suggest you get a new dongle my friend.

this may be an obvious question but did you try different USB ports? Did it say "your USB device can operate faster"? - if its recognising it as USB1.1 that might be the problem. Otherwise, I'm out of suggestions...

Oh, and I am using Windows Ultimate 32bit on both a laptop and desktop, and both work with this dongle.

you'd like the dongle! it looks pretty when youre playing cos it has 3 lights, power on, midi in and midi out LED's

PS: Microsoft: Please fix this. You're already losing the music market to Mac enthusiasts, can't you get this right? Get a calculator and work out how many musicians will migrate from XP (or vista) to Win 7 and be pissed off then think fvck this im switching to mac?
