USB not recognized

I put the pictures from my camera to my computer using a usb cord and it worked fine. Ever since then my computer will say USB port not recognized. The cord is out, I did this about 2 weeks ago and it is still saying that. What do I do? Thanks.

If the cord is out and you try to access the port, then yes, it will not recognize it.

If you're plugging in the camera to the port, as long as the camera is turned on, Windows should detect the camera when you plug it in. If it doesn't, try another port.

The other possibility is that the port is damaged, or the camera is damaged, or the camera's flash memory is messed up by not ejecting the USB device before unplugging the cord.

Try another port, and post back to let us know what happened.

I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not trying to access the port when the cord is out. it all works fine, the port works, my camera works, I get the pictures on my computer. But from then on, I get the error that the computer doesn't recognize the port. I've already used the port and it works fine, this is why I don't know why I keep getting that notice. Thanks

So after you get the pics onto the computer is when you get the error? What occurred right after the pics were transferred? Or just before the error message starts showing up?

I'm trying to help, but I need a little more info to help diagnose the problem.

This didn't happen before I started transferring problems. But it wasn't a problem, it worked. It started to happen after the first time I successfully used it - never had a problem. This error message just likes to pop up every time the computer even goes idle. Nothing is wrong with the usb port, just get that error.

i have read on this forum if you are having USB problems, shut down the computer, remove all power sources, then hold the power switch down for 10-15 seconds, then reboot. I read that this resets the USB controller.

By removing all power sources, do you mean ALL the plugs from the back of the computer? Don't know if I would know how to put it back. I know which one is the power cord though!!
