Hi, and thank you for taking your time on answering this thread.

The problem is my desktop computer's 2.0 ports in the back won't detect my WD Elements External Drive. model number is (WDBPCK0010BBK-01) though it can detect Pen Drives. When i insert the hard drive it detects but it doesn't show on My Computer. Also when i check it on Disk Management it says "You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it." I also tried it with my laptop but it detects. Only on my desktop computer can't. Help me please, i don't want to lose my important files in there.

/Miche

OK, it doesn't give a clue as to what happened.

Have you been using it on this Desktop before? Was it accessible then?

You said that the hard drive is accessible on your laptop.

Can you now post the screenshot of Windows Disk Management on the laptop with your WD ext. drive plugged in? (Please make sure you have all other external drives plugged out.)

Are you able to access the files and copy the files to your laptop? (Try atleast one small file)

Thank you for the reply, yes it was accessible before but when i formatted my computer due to a random power outage. After formatting i want to get my installers through my external but it doesn't detect it anymore.Only pen drives are accessible but not my WD external drive.

Additionally, when i turn on my PC while the external drive is plugged in it doesn't push through the Windows Loading Screen. It just stuck up on BIOS Startup.

OK, it now appears that you still have not installed the drivers for your desktop motherboard. You may download all the drivers for your motherboard from the motherboard manufacturer's website on to a pendrive and install those on your clean installed Windows.

Perhaps a fresh clean install may be in order but keep all the drivers ready on a pen drive. During the install process keep your internet connection off. Once all the drivers are installed you can connect to the internet and allow Windows to update any drivers. ( Though some people may insist that Windows will find and install all the drivers, I always prefer to install the drivers from the MB manufacturer's website first and then let Windows to update afterwards.)

You may also see this article and try the suggestions if you do not want to do a clean install again.

Without asking any further questions like :) -

1. What exactly you did that brought your HDD back in the reckoning ? (This may help others with similar problems)
and
2. What is the read and write speed on your lappie? (use the same file, same size) -

I would delineate a way to bring your Western Digital HDD to factory condition. So you will be starting with a clean slate as if you bought a new drive just then.:) Nothing better could be done.

First backup all your data on your WD elements drive to another External drive.

Run the manufacturer's diagnostic/repair utility Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for DOS. Download dlgdiag_5_20.zip from WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Blue / SE / SE16 (SATA II) Read the Instructions therein.

First create a bootable MSDOS pen drive using Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
( Backup all data in the WD ext. drive as aforesaid for it will all be lost while formatting it with Rufus. Plug your WD ext. drive (remove all other external drives) and run Rufus. In the "Create a bootable disk using" select MSDOS from the dropdown arrow and click on Start. When completed close Rufus.)

Extract the contents of dlgdiag_5_20.zip directly into the newly created DOS pen drive.

Plugin your WD drive into the laptop.

Boot from the MSDOS pen drive using the one-time boot menu.

Against the command prompt C:> type dlgdiag5.exe and press Enter to run the Diagnostics.(Take care to select the correct external drive and not your system drive)

Run the Quick Test (I am sure it will pass.) , then Write Zeroes to clean it up and bring it to the factory condition.

Now format the drive with any formatting/partitioning utility.

Check read and write speeds on both machines (again the same test file, same size)

Are you happy?

-I changed my CMOS Battery.
-Updated my BIOS and CHIPSETS.
-Did a full Computer Virus Scan.

When copying files using my external hard drive on my laptop sir? Maximum copying/receiving speed is 40MB. Before on my Desktop Computer it was 40-50 MB. But now only .35-1 MB copying speed.

I can sir, but THIS is the only External Drive i have. 2 Pen Drives and this External.

Are you happy?
A little sir. :) as i can open my HDD on my desktop.

But in the future, if this happens again i'll be sure to buy 2 external drives.

That is too low. But I am unable to reason out why. Let us see whether someone else has any idea on dealing with it.

Okay. I only have 2 2.0 USB Ports on the back of my CPU though. 2 on the Front but doesn't work.
