Hi,

I have a problem with my PC when using Win 7 64bit. It seems as I have a consumer based PCWorld PC that I have not been thought of in the 64bit world. When I bought my machine I had 32bit Vista pre-installed and it came with 4gb ram. I have recently upgraded to 8gb and wanted to use Win 7 64 to utilise this. Everything seemed fine until I tried copying data from external hard drives. Win 7 sees them and allows the process of copying but then hangs half way through. It then tells me the hard drive needs ro be formatted and shows an unknown device. I have upgraded the chipset to the latest 64 bit version and tried all I can think of. I have seen this question on a few forums with no real answer. There is a work around to do with the ram but for now I have downgraded to 32bit win 7 which works fine. I am putting this on in the hope someone can keep me up to date when this is fixed and then I can reinstall 64 and get my other 5gb of ram back! Any help is appreciated and I am a novice with PCs so please be kind.

By the way this is my PC-
IMEDIA X2424 AIO - PB80141901 - iMedia - platform_amadeus_imedia - Desktop

Cheers

Hi Elmo and welcome to the forum:thumbsup:

I have a friend who has similar problems so it seems to be an issue MS should be addressing.
Also I noticed another thread on here addressing similar problems.
Sounds like you've tried everything I can think of. Maybe some of the rocket scientists who graze here will have some suggestions.

Sorry I can't be of more help:rolleyes:

Hmmn. no help eh?

Have you tried your RAM going in one at a time. Also there is a thread about a somewhat similar issue by lebec which might be helpful:)
