Hi all--

I have a formatted external disk that I removed from a computer (it used to be my C:\ drive) and installed into an external enclosure. Now that the problem (a rootkit) has been resolved and my data has been saved, I want to put it back into the original case and hook that computer up to my TV. Right now, it's a formatted HD with no visible data on it.

My W7 ISO is on a portable HD. If I boot up w/o an OS, will there be a magical way to use my USB device?

What can I use to boot with? I do have a W7 32bit install disk. I'd prefer to use the portable disk's ISO.

Can I boot from DVD and then install from USB?

I hope I described my situation/circumstances well enough.

Thanks all.

So you basically want to install w7 from ISO which is on your external USB HDD?

The media that you can boot from can be DVD, USB key etc but not a USD HDD (unless you have installed the OS onto this USB HDD rendering it a bootable source location, from the start) i do not think. If the ISO is all good, all you need to do is transfer to a bootable DVD and boot to it, as you would from installing from an original CD/DVD.

Boot from the DVD, select Custom Install, format the HD and install Windows 7.

Why make it any harder when you have easy in hand?

That's what I thought. Thanks Greg, you're confirming what I suspected....thanks again.
