USB3 install fail: feature transfer error: 2

Sammy888

Windows 7 x64 Pro.
I tried installing my NEC USB3 3.0 Host Controller File after a repair/upgrade install. Now, I get the above error during the driver setup. I downloaded the driver directly from Asus. Any ideas on the workaround?

Thanks

Er No!! :(

Is the USB controller recognised? are there any drivers already installed? if so can you uninstall them

Can you turn USB 3 off in the BIOS? if yes do it, start your PC switch off the PC switch USB 3 back on again and try again

You could try using CCleaner both normal clean and registry don't forget to make a registry backup and then try installing it again
I hope this helps :)

"Edit" have a look here there are other drivers that I believe should work if you can install them; http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/152645-win-7-doesnt-recognize-nec-usb-3-0-driver.html

Thanks. I tried that. I couldn't install the driver again. What I first did was I wanted to update the driver....just in case the repair/upgrade wasnt 100%. 3/4 through the setup update I got a popup asking for the installation directory and it wast pointing to one of those HKLD\Software entries. I cancelled the setup. I then uninstalled it, but before I did that I checked the device manager and the USB 3 driver was there and recognized.

Afterwards I got the above Error 2. I did a system restore and I got my driver back. However, I don't like this upgrade/repair. My PC is now running slower and as you can see, there are issues with the repair. :(

Just out of interest why did you do the repair install in the first place? If you really have so many problems it might be a better idea and save time to do a fresh install
