USB_BUGCODE_ERROR 0xFE

Good Morning,

I have just bought an XPS 8100 Desktop witn Win 7 x64 professional on board. Recently, i have been getting crashes relating to a USB_BUGCODE_ERROR showing the memory string 0xFE. Microsoft support suggests that this is related to a poor USB driver.

I have confirmed that some of my USB drivers are old. Generic Hub dates back to early 2006, as well as the Intel 5/3400 PCI express root drivers. As per instructions i have attached the requested files. Assistance would be much appreciated, as this problem has been dogging me for atleast 2 months!

I'll have a look at debug info in a minute, meanwhile it wouldn't hurt to see if intel's auto tool won't fix your outdated intel drivers.

thats saying the chipset etc is up to date.....

See thats the funny thing, i try to update anyone of the "old" drivers and I get a message reporting that the driver is the most current. I find it hard to believe intel hasn't update USB firmware in 5 years!

it's not a firmware problem actually it's the driver itself.
It's a xp, or vista driver at best. That date stamp is too old.
Did you try the intel tool I linked in my first post?

I can not find anything suggesting that the driver for EHCI eUSB Miniport is the wrong one for you to have. Dates are within expected range too.

What security software are you running? and have you tried plugging in the drive while it's disabled?

THe only thing thats currently connected in the USB is my Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard 3000 Dongle... This is the ONLY thing that was plugged in during the last crash.

I have installed that Radeon 5870 aftermarket. It was not stock with the system. And previously there was an issue with a driver that i was able to resolve. I had previously reinstalled the OS in hopes that this was just a corruption but now I am concearned that the board on the machine has failed.

I still have several months on the warrenty, but prefer not to have to go through that hassle if need be.

P.S will run a scan/now as soon as i get home in an hour.

Yup still getting the same issue.
Since drivers were addressed I'm starting to wonder if there is a power setting in your bios win 7 does not like for some reason.

Are you familiar enough with your system bios to go looking for yourself?
