I have a USB sound card installed which is running a stereo amp and speakers which is very good for music but not so good for games. Plugged into my built in surround outputs are a cheap-ish set of 5.1 speakers that I want to use for games. Problem is, I'm wondering how I can set each game to use the built in audio (surround), and each music app (itunes, google chrome, spotify etc.) to use the sound card (stereo). Is there a way of doing this?

thanks in adv.

Only way to do something like that is to set the onboard sound as the default so it will work with games, and then in the apps (not sure about itunes but it does work with Winamp, and won't with Chrome) check the options and see if it allows for using different sound/audio devices.
