Use sound over HDMI

My motherboard has two seperate sound capabilities. The normal sound outputs [Jacks in the back, headphone jack in the front] and sound over the HDMI.

I use our 37 inch flatscreen as my second screen, and if I put a Blue Ray in, the software asks me if I want to use the regular sound, or the HDMI [and the sound comes out my TV]

I do not know how to put anything else to the TV speakers, and I was hoping somebody can tell me what to do to fix that.

Thing is Joes is where do you want the sound to come from.

Personally my TV speakers are pretty ordinary and I have my stereo hooked up to the TV to pick just enough signal from it to give me a decent "surround sound" system.

Right now, it is as a learning tool. Later it will be an attempt to put my VirtualBox Windows XP on the seperate sound source.

It would also help when we want to stream movies.

I want to be able to move the sound from one to the other output device at will, preferably being able to choose what app gets which sound...

[For the record, either way, the only option [setup] is simple 2 speaker sound.

I am not real conversant with virtual machines either as I have never tried running one - sorry mate. :(
