Hi,
I am going crazy with this issue i'm having. First it all started out as a pretty bad virus. The only way I could get rid of it was totally wiping my 2TB WDigital drive SATA. Now after I used KillDisk, I boot up the Installation disk and after the 'Starting Windows' screen, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. Now, I know it's not the disk because I have a laptop that I was able to boot it up on and install perfectly fine. I know it's not the CD/DVD drive because I was able to boot other disks such as KillDisk with no problem. I'm not sure if there was still something I needed to do after wiping it with KillDisk to make the drive usable again.
Also, I tried using another hard drive I had laying around which was a 320GB SATA. That one had some different problem booting up the Windows that was already intsalled on it. So.. again I used Killdisk and it does the same thing after wiping it.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance! Hope this is an easy fix! HELP!

Hold on the Cavalry is coming!

GO TO A COMMAND PROMPT USING YOUR WIN 7 DVD

Booting from a DVD/CD
On some computers, immediately after pushing the Power ON button, start tapping the F12 key and choose the option to boot from DVD/CD.

On some computers, this capability is assigned to another function key.

This is a one-time boot and doesn’t change your normal boot sequence.

If your computer doesn’t offer this capability, then you will need to boot into the bios and change the boot order there so that Boot from DVD/CD is the first choice.

You will need to consult your computer manufacturer’s documentation.

STEPS TO BOOT TO A COMMAND PROMPT USING A WIN 7 DVD
Ø Insert your Win 7 DVD into the optical reader
Ø Power down your computer.
Ø Power up your computer.
Ø Boot from the Win 7 DVD using the procedure applicable to your computer.
Ø When the following is displayed on your screen,
press the key combo of SHIFT + F10.

Do NOT click on Next.
Press the SHIFT + F10 key combo.

You will have a X:\Sources> command prompt.
X: is a ram drive created by Windows 7.
X: contains a mini-version of Windows 7 called a PE (pre-execution environment).

If you do not plan on installing windows at this time, you may now remove the DVD.

If you plan on continuing with an install, then do not remove the DVD.

Execute the desired commands.
Use the EXIT command to return to the Win 7 installation procedure.

===========================================

Now that you are at a command prompt:

===========================================

type DISKPART and hit ENTER
the prompt will change to DISKPART>

Enter following commands:
LIST DISK
this will list the disks

SELECT DISK 1
to select Disk 1 (if that's the disk you want)
DETAIL DISK
to make sure that you've got the correct disk
CLEAN
this will write zeroes first and last sectors on the selected disk
EXIT
exit from DiskPart
EXIT
exit from the command shell

Your disk is now ready to use.

That's the problem though. Is I can't get into the Win 7 Dvd. It boots up then after loading files and the Starting Windows screen. The screen goes black with a white blinking cursor at the top left. In which I can't type anything in that cursor.

Follow that procedure, precisely as written,

Hitting Shift+F10 and it doesn't seem to be opening command promt. At exactly which point am i supposed room hit it? Its either during loading files or Starting Windows. Once I get to the black screen blinking cursor i am unable to do anything. Which then causes me to hard restart.

read once again. Instructions say when to press that key combo.

That is a key combo which means:
Hold down the Shift key.
Do not release the Shift key.
Tap the F10 key.
Release the Shift key.

Followed the instructions. Now after hitting the combo, instead of a black screen blinking cursor- i get just a plain black screen.

I actually ran the test before wiping the drives and there were no problems found. But, currently I have only one stick of RAM in because if I have both in the 'Starting Windows' would freeze.

The answer to your question is to press the combo keys at the first screen when DVD boots. Or you can access Command Box using System Recovery Options.

This is to assure that KillDisk truly wiped the boot sector since we use Diskpart Clean Command to do that.

If that fails, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

If this fails, create, format and mark Active a Primary partition to try install using Step 2.2 here: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Actually thanks, but I found the problem. It was the graphics card. I switched it with an old geforce mx200 and it got to where i could see the background. But unfortunately the graphics card is too old and too slow so it freezes right there. I have no onboard graphics and i just need a way to bypass it with the radeon hd 5670 card. Any ideas?

the older graphics card i stuck is getting passed the black screen blinkomg cursor. So i end up seeing the windows blue background but it freezes right there because the graphics card is too slow.

If the card ran before you wiped the HD to reinstall then it should still work.

The problem may be that you need to find the correct driver. Win7 handles drivers differntly than XP so you should first see what driver it provides in the installer and via optional Windows Updates. If this doesn't work correctly import the latest driver from the PC or Device's Support Downloads webpage.

This is explained along with other steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Factory OEM
