Goal: I would like to set up an Ad Hoc network so I can connect my ipad to it by using a 3 party program, mHotSpot.

Equipment: Wireless Adapter: Intel Centrino WiMax 6250 (Device manager says is working)
Internet Access: Alcatel CDMA USB modem (functions fine)

Problem: I had this setup in the past (with Ad Hoc network + mHotSpot) but now it does not work. Hardware radio switch is off. Under "Manage Wireless Networks" it states "Wireless is not currently enabled." Under network setup, Ad Hoc is not even listed.

Changes: Several months ago, my keyboard failed. I replaced it with a generic brand. Since then I cannot turn on the hardware radio switch.

What I have done to fix the problem:

Hardware Radio Switch:
Fn+F2: Wireless icon appears - no change
Open WiMax Configuration Utility - will not change anything unless hardware turned on.
Fn+F3: Wrong key combination - puts computer into hybernation.
There are no physical hardware switches

Wireless not enabled
Activated Troubleshooter - no solution.
WiMax is associated with LAN 2 connection. Disabled. No change.
Turned off WiMax, Turned back on. No change.
Disabled Antivirus and firewall - no change.

Internet Sharing
Enabled on Alcatel CDMA modem - no change.
Enabled on WiMax LAN 2 connection (disabled Alcatel) - no change.

My thoughts:
Without activating the hardware switch, I believe I am stuck. Is it possible that the generic keyboard does not physically switch it on even though it shows the little radio tower?

Or I tend to think that maybe the WiMax adapter has failed even though the device manager claims it is working.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on the matter?

Welcome to Seven Forums.
I am no expert on this subject but have a couple of thoughts.

I will assume this is a laptop with a bad keyboard to which you've attached a USB keyboard. Since the lappy keyboard is "bad" the Fn and F2 keys may not be working, the add-on one doesn't have this Fn Function.

You could try uninstalling the WiMax drivers and reinstalling them. Try powering everything off for 5 minutes then restarting in order, Modem, Router, computers.

I replaced the keyboard with a new one - not USB but actually wired to the motherboard. Everything else works find other than the Fn pictures vs. what they actually do are all messed up.

I checked to make sure that the drivers were functioning, not corrupted and have the most up to date driver. No change.
