Solved User Account Control Problem With Java

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium edition on an Acer 64-Bit Netbook using Firefox 3.6.10 with Java script enabled. I am logged on as the Administrator.
I installed Java jre-6u22-windows-i586-s.exe and it works fine. However, I have discovered one quirk. When I access a Web page in Firefox that uses Java it works fine. However, if I click on a Java Web page link in an e-mail in Outlook 2010 it launches Firefox and then asks if I want to run Java. Is there any way to eliminate this User Account Control request without disabling UAC completely?

Ken,
Bring that UAC slider down one position from the top.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
You can keep UAC set at it's max. Right click the application's icon and select "Properties". Now, select the "compatibility" tab. At the bottom of the compatibility dialog box, uncheck the box that says "Run This Program as an Administrator"
If the box is already unchecked, the software may be too old to have a digital signature compatible with windows 7. A lot of older programs will run fine this way but you have to put up with UAC, or, as Karlsnooks said, just turn down UAC a notch.

My UAC is set down one notch from the top at Default-Notify. How do I find the Java application to uncheck the run as administrator? I have no icon for the Java application. What is the risk of turning off UAC if i have the Windows Firewall on and have antivirus software running?
Thanks.

Could you give me an actual example of what you are clicking on in Outlook 2010?

I use Firefos. I do not use Outlook--too much bloat, too many fingers in the pie, too much interference with other packages--but I've got a netbook which I'll "sacrifice" for a couple of tests. I'll create a restore point and hope that by returning to the restore point that I'll be able to undo the harm done by Outlook.

Can you locate the Java jre-6u22-windows-i586-s.exe file?
Try C:\program files\Java. Or, start/search for the file.

Ken,
I notice that I didn't answer you question.

I'd advise against turning UAC off. I have done it before myself but found that I kept forgetting to turn it back on and I use Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

The dangers can be best explained by the folks in the System Security forum of SevenForums.

karlsnooks-
The e-mail I received in Outlook 2010 advising of your post has the following link in it.
User Account Control Problem With Java - Windows 7 Forums
When I click on this link I get the "Do you want to allow the following program to make change to this computer?" The program is Java (TM) Se Runtime Environment 6 Update 22. If I click YES or NO then Firefox opens the link. However, if I copy the link and enter it directly in Firefox I do not get the UAC message. This problem also occurs when I attempt to print from a Web page -- i.e., anytime Java is invoked.
Can I just shut off UAC since I have Windows Firewall on and antivirus installed?

That's why UAC should be always kept at max level (Vista, working mode ):

I know where the Java jre-6u22-windows-i586-s.exe file is. However, that is just the installer file. I don't know the name of the actual application file which in the Program Files (86) Java folder. There are numerous application files there.

The file extension ".exe" means it is an executable file, meaning, it's an application (program) It is not an installer file.

Java jre-6u22-windows-i586-s.exe is the file I downloaded which resides in my "Uitlities" folder. I ran this file which installed Java Run Environment 6 Update 22. There is a Java folder in my Program Files (x86) folder. However, there are numerous application programs in that folder. I would need to know which EXE file to deal with and what to do with it to stop the UAC request from popping up each time Java is invoked.

I chatted with Microsoft support this morning who advised that since every Java request is different, Windows 7 cannot determine which is legitimate and which is not, so UAC is invoked each time. They advised turning UAC off as long as I have anti-virus software installed. They said UAC is an added feature to Windows 7 in the event the user doesn't have, or until the under installs, anti-virus software.

ken,
Both of my computers do not have Java installed.

I tried the very link giving you problems, in fact, posted your msg into an outlook email draft, and ctrl-leftclicked on link and link opened up in firefox without any problems.

I do not have java ionstalled and have no problems.

Sorry about the delay in replying but I was trying to duplicate another user's problem-unsuccessfully-although did learn much on the journey.
