I m also a victim. For the first time I opt for startup repair, and it worked. After a few days, again the user icon is there in logon screen, and now startup repair didnt fix that. Now I tried system restore, and voila (till now, I dont know the permanent solution, but I am trying to find it out.)

Hello BJ,

This can help show you how to check your settings for or setup a automatic logon to the user account you want at startup.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/377-log-automatically-startup.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

cheers guys, i've done this, just need to restart sometime to test it, i vaguely remember doing something like this on vista.

i seem to rememeber switching off the guest account to fix this before in vista, was that after a .net install/update? or just switching to fast user or something like that
