Solved User account notification settings

I installed an APC battery backup yesterday along with the required software. Now every time I boot up, the message about "do I want this program to make changes to your computer" comes up. I have the software installed in my startup folder so don't know why I have to see this at each boot up. Any way to disarm this message? I know the notification area on user accounts control settings probably would do it but not sure if I should change that setting. Thanks.

Hello Patriceltic, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yeah, I have the same issue with APC PowerChute doing this.

You could use the tutorial below to create a elevated task shortcut to run the C:\Program Files (x86)\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\Display.exe file without a UAV prompt.
Afterwards, you can use this elevated task shortcut with step 15 in the tutorial below to setup a separate task to run at startup?
When finished, delete APC UPS Status from the Startup folder in the Start Menu. This will only not give a UAC prompt for administrator accounts though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks so much for quick reply -- Hmmm - - the fact that the workaround only works on admin acct is bothersome. I always log on to the user account - rarely to the admin so this won't really help me I guess. I guess I'll just have to put up with the UAC protections. I would like to mark this as "partially" solved since it is restricted to admin function, but don't see that as an option so will mark solved. Thanks again -

You're welcome. Hopefully APC PowerChute will release a new version soon to not require a UAC prompt at startup for it to run.

As an aside, I think I'll zip off a quick email to them suggesting what you have mentioned. Maybe if enough people do that, they will comply. Anyway, I am glad to have it - I was running into many black screen freezes and since employing the battery backup, that has stopped. The windows7 forum mentioned the battery backup as a possible solution, and voila!! so far it has worked. Good forum.
