Hi there,

I am hoping someone here can help.

I have a desktop running windows 7 and I have set up 3 user accounts - mine the main one as administrator, my son & guest.

When I try to launch the main one, I get the cmd box up and cannot exit it - when I put in the command exit it just goes to a black screen and stays there.

Yet I can go on as a guest and all seems to work fine, but obviuosly I need to access my user account because its got all sorts of stuff on there I cannot access as a guest.

By the way up until a few days ago my main user account worked just fine - I have also tried a system restore but that has not made any difference

Can anyone offer any help please?

Could you try this at the command prompt.

REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\sethc.exe"

If it does't work here ... you would probably need to do this using the windows repair or installer disk and using the command prompt from there.

In the cmd prompt window type:
Code:
explorer

What happens?

Does your son's account work normally?

Is problem specific to your account? Create a new test account and look if it has same problem. Afterwards logon under your normal account and delete the test account.

In your account start REGEDIT and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
What is on the right pane? I'm not interested in BuildNumber, ExcludeProfileDir, FirstLogon, ParseAutoexec
