HELLO ALL ! I am running 7600. I set up my account as the administrator and my wife as a user. Whenever I install a new program, the icon is put on both of our desktops. If she deletes the icon , it deletes it on my desktop as well. This entirely defeats the purpose of having seperate accounts. She uses the computer for school, I use it for games. Can someone please help ? We need seperate desktops with seperate icon sets ! Thanks in advance !

it shouldn't happen, but anyways you can put your icons in your C:\users\<your username>\Desktop and as long as your wifie doesn't use your account and delete your desktop icons, they should remain.

Odd. You are describing content being placed in, and deleted from, the All Users Desktop folder.

Good point Antman. It depends on where the program installs its icons. A similar concept is when the program installs icons to the All Users Start Menu folder. When someone deletes an icon from the start menu, it will be gone for all users.

The All Users Desktop path is C:\Users\Public\Desktop. Any icons deleted by any user will be deleted from all users

The private Desktop path is C:\Users\<your_username>\Desktop. Other users cannot delete your icons unless perhaps they uninstall the program that created it. But normal users should not be able to install or uninstall programs anyways.

That is what is baffling. She installed TI84 calculator software on her user account. The desktop icons were on her desktop ( desired ) as well as on mine ( undesired ). I deleted the icons because I did not need them. They were gone off of her account as well. This problem goes both ways. The executables remain unchanged of course. This is not a life altering situation, just a little irritating. I am utterly confused as how to fix this.

Complain to the software developers not to place there shortcut icons on the All User's Desktop. Problem Solved.

Yeah. It all depends on how the program installs. Some actually have a choice during installation

1) Install for only this account
2) Install for all users

What you can do is anytime you install anything, make sure the shortcut goes into the particular account's desktop folder and not in all users desktop folder. Move the file from all user's desktop folder to the particular user's desktop folder if needed.
