User Folders - Confused

Hi,

I think this is probably the right place to note this and it's one of those small things that (like with Vista) bothers me.

Basically I wanted to move all of my user folders (my music, my documents, contacts etc) to another partition, the same way I have always done with XP.

Although being a pain having to do each one on it's own and not being able to move them all together like with XP, it's not the end of the world and I'll only have to do it once.

However I noticed that as I changed the location of each, I ended up with a duplicate folder in the original location (without the fancy graphic overlay) which I can't delete or hide.

So, if I was to change the location of all 12 folders (I stopped after 4), I would seemingly end up with 24 folders in my user directory opened up from the Start menu, 12 usable ones and 12 just "there".

This seems rather odd and whilst it is not a huge issue, it seems completely daft. Hopefully that makes sense!

Andrew

Something has gone wrong with the transfer  the moving of the folders should not leave any remnants of the original folders.

I assume you are logged in as an admin user (the new dual type admin), to remove the orphaned folders go into c:\users\yourusername and try to delete the folders manually - if this does not work you can run explorer as an elevated admin user which should allow deleting.

To elevate the explorer - Type explorer.exe into the start menu search and right click on the explorer icon that appears on the list and select run as administrator this version of explorer should allow you to delete the folders

From the Start Menu, select your username on the top right, in the window that opens, right click a folder that you want to move, go to the location tab and click the move button and then browse to the desire location and click select folder.

I'm sure there are easier ways to do this , that said I've never done it myself ..

Try this .. click *Start* .. right-click on *Computer* .. select *Manage* ..
go to *Local Users and Groups* >> *Users* ..
then double-click on the User name you want to change and go to the *Profile* tab ..

From here it looks as if you can change the local path of your home folder ..

Ok, now Win7 is telling me that the folders are shared and do I want to delete? Is this something to do with multimedia sharing because the problem seems to be with pictures, videos & music? Do the folders have to be in the default location to work with the network sharing i.e. directly linked to various user accounts?

Thanks for the reply though, it looks like I can delete them now if I want to!
