Hi. I just setup a windows 7 with WGM server, (workgroup Mail server) I control the pc via remote desktop. I have two questions. 1. I need to restart the pc every now and then to refresh WGM. I knew how to do this using the windows task manager. Sadly, this skill has now gone missing out my head. 2. I also use to know where to add the username and password in the registry so that the pc boots past it and executes the WGM service.

Like I said, I have done this on a pc about two years ago and it worked great. It was a trial run for a customer. He decided against it and I canned all the info. Please assist.

thank you

Add a shortcut on the desktop: shutdown /s /t 10 That will shutdown the computer in 10 seconds. You can make it /t 0 if you want it to shutdown immediately.

To make the computer automatically logon a specific account, do this:

Press WinKey+r
Type control userpasswords2 and press Enter
Select the account you want to automatically login, uncheck User must enter a user name and password to use this computer and click the Apply button.
In the Automatically Log On window, enter the password if there is one, leave blank otherwise and click OK.
Click Apply and OK to close the User Accounts window.

Now when the computer boots, the account you picked will automatically logon.

Thank you... I had some issues with the software I am using. After all not fully compatible with Win 7 Ultimate. Going to reload with XP. I know it works just great there. Will this password work-around work on XP aswell?

thank you

Yep, just schedule the shutdown script. You can set it for anytime, day, weekly etc. -WS

Instead of shutdown /s /t 10, make it shutdown /r /t 10 and it will restart.

Enter shutdown /? from a Command Prompt for all options.
