Using 2 Monitors on PCI GPU and Onboard GPU

Hi,

I am wanting to use both of my monitors on my PC, I have 1 GPU PCI and the onboard GPU.

Both are nVidia brands.

Could someone help me to do this please?

First, please update you system specs.

Second, why wouldn't you just hook both monitors to the GPU?

Third, it may be possible, it may not be possible. It depends on your MoBo and BIOS.

You state your graphics to be the 3100 but this is only a graphics chipset (usually) present in laptops. What is your actual graphics card; the one you call your PCI GPU?

This is all a rather moot inquiry though, as only certain boards can enable this kind of harmony between onboard and PCI-E graphics. To date I have never found software which can accomplish this (though to be honest I've seldom looked).

What are you trying to achieve with a multiple monitor display?

Is that the PC listed in your system specs? In there you have an ATI video card listed. The ASUS M3A78-CM supports Hybrid CrossFireX so with the right ATI video card it should be doable.

@oxymoron02 + alphanumeric, that's why I asked the OP to update system specs. It seems as though this is either a new build or a different computer.

Like James7679 said connect both monitors to the GT 210 PCI Video card. The onboard video will likely be disabled when a dedicated video card is detected. Then when in Windows 7 press the windows key and the P key. Then select "extend". You may also have to adjust your screen resolution(s) to match each monitor..

To elaborate on the above, the 210 should have one VGA socket and one DVI (as well as an IMO virtually useless displayport); you can use these to output to two monitors without difficulty. Follow James' and alpha's instructions to enable the option.

This is of course assuming that your monitors have the required sockets. Be careful with DVI, as there are three primary types (DVI-A : Analogue. DVI-D : Digital. And DVI-I : Both) and two secondary types (single link and dual link) just to enhance the fun. Generally speaking your graphics card will be DVI-I, but your monitor may be DVI-D only or worse case scenario, DVI-A. If it is one of the latter two then you will have to purchase a cable to match, but they are cheap as anything on ebay.

My LCD monitors have a VGA and a DVI-D female connector. The cable I used is a DVI-D dual link male to male. My GT220 has a VGA and DVI-I female. The DVI-I connector will accept a DVI male to VGA female adapter so I could connect two VGA monitors if I wanted. A DVI-I male connector will not fit into a DVI-D female, that was why I bought a DVI-D cable. A DVI-I cable will connect to my video card but won't plug into my monitor.
