using all cpu meter with core temp, only one core temp showing

to me, he meant the entire processor. as advanced as quad and six core processor's are, i would almost expect them to have temp readings per core, not just 1 for the whole processor.

honestly i'm not sure what he meant. thats the only email i've gotten from him. ill send him another if ya like or ill give you his mailing address.
Please do send him another email about this. It works well as it is, but individual core temperatures would be nice.

here's the reply:

"Hi Colin,

It's very simple. Older AMD processors (K8 based) allowed software to access temperature data of every single core. Starting with the original Phenom they changed the way software can access the processor temperature data.
You can no longer read temperature of every core in the system, but just a single value per processor. I agree that modern CPU's should allow a per core monitoring of temperatures, but unfortunately I guess that AMD thinks differently than we do. I only hope that they fix this with their next gen architectures.

Thanks,
Arthur"

hope that helps guys

Apparently! This may be the same for the Atholon IIs as well as the Phenom lineup. The Skt 939 were the first dual core models still relatively new there which allowed for this. Once you move upto the AM2, AM2+, AM3 lineup the architecture changes for this.

This is why I've been running the PC Wizard program rather then a gadget for temps since that has remained as close as you can get to seeing the same as what the hardware monitor reports with a fast restart. AMD's thinking is that you should only need a main temp to know if the temps are good or climbing upto the threshold indicating a problem.

I have the Core Temp temp tucked away in the sys tray as well as the PC Wizard 2010 version I can compare the main temp against on both. When minimized the PCW program will then become a lime green color text display on the screen in one corner for a constant rather gadget looking to some extent while also providing a variety of information when viewed normally which includes the video card temp and voltages.

For the quick spot check however it is light on resources and never runs into any problems when going to run a full screen program or game. When you don't have a good gadget this would be a thought.

You won't find any option for that. You simply click the minimize __ item on the corner of that windows as you would any explorer window and suddenly you have a display!

Just remember however that the only way so far to end that being displayed later is logging off if not restarting or shutting down entirely. The taskmanager would then need to kill the process due to this while no harm is seen.

With a gadget you simply hover over the X and close it up instantly when not wanting it displayed there. This simply was the best alternative until something else is found.

I take the shorter route here unfortunately! By default that is already enabled where you can simply minimize the window itself. When in the Tools>options be sure to check the "Sensors in real time" box seen in the first view tab before checking to see what is set in the "Monitoring" there.

It will appear onscreen right off the bat when simply going to minimize the window. But I'm sure you want to have that box checked off for the live information rather then the logged type. :D

So far I've checked the hardware monitor on more then one system with the latest 2010 version and it stays right on the mark as far as the main cpu temp. The plus is also having a graphic card temp displayed as well when the main window is up and you click the temp option.
