Solved Using 'DEL' gets me to boot management NOT bios !!!!!

Wanted to get to the bios of my wife's win 7 pc. Restarted, and used the delete button as I have done on previous occasions - HOWEVER - no boot messages, and computer went through to desktop without going into bios. (pausing to ask for password of course)

Tried several times, and on one occasion was confronted by a screen message titled boot manager (with the option to press F8 to access memory diagnostic.

Is there a blatantly obvious fix for this? / something I have missed OR can I remove cmos battery to get back to start-up basics?
In all other respects, the PC operates as it should.

Hello Purgatory,

What is the manufacture of your computer? When you first start your computer, it should flash-up at the very beginning which F keys get you to which option.

Hi Vinny - thanks for your response.
The motherboard is a gigabyte - and entry is by means of the DEL key.
If you re -read my original post, you will see that I said there are no start up messages!

Can you try one of the following F keys when your computer starts-up to see if it gets you into BIOS.

F1 F2 ESC DEL F10

yes I will try the alternatives, and see what happens.
This is a recent problem, and on many past occasions, using the del key has always got me into the bios info of the gigabyte m/board.
I can report that the gigabyte manual confirms del as the key to use.

1. Does your DEL key work and are you pressing it fast enough & repeatedly enough? Have you tried to delete text in documents to test it recently?
2. I had a similar issue and my problem turned out to be a video issue. The monitor was not awakening fast enough to show the bios screen which had opened. As I pressed other keys to try to find the problem it released the bios menu and booted into Windows as the monitor finally got a computer-on signal and deciding that it had to wake up. This would be a longshot but worth checking out if all other attempts fail. Check to be sure your monitor is always on and/or try another one and/or another video port.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard, GAZ77X UD5H. The Del key works on mine. I think the other BIOS key is F2. It sounds like the keyboard is not being recognized at startup. Have you moved the keyboard to a different port, than it originally had?

My Gigabyte motherboard has a button to reset the BIOS, I don't have to remove the CMOS backup battery to reset the BIOS.

If its not working at power on, does it work if do a "Restart" from Windows? If its a UEFI BIOS and the OS is setup to run with UEFI maybe its bypassing the BIOS setup option on bootup. I know this can happen in Windows 8, but Windows 7???

I had in fact suspected the delete key itself, and did try the the delete text trick. However this worked as it should.
But out of interest, I did then swap over my keyboard with my wife's, AND suddenly we were back in business
In my 18 years of computing, I have never had a keyboard failure - you learn something every day!
