I was wondering if there is a way to change Gmail to be the default mail program. So that when a mailto link is clicked a Gmail window will open.

Is there a registry hack for this?

If you are using Windows Live Mail, just go to accounts and check Gmail as the default account.

Easy Way

That's the easy way to open mailto links in google chrome :

Open Regedit (*windows button* + R --> regedit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command\

edit (default) to :

"C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" https://mail.google.com/mail?extsrc=mailto&url=%1

That's it !

Have FUN !
