Hello,

I want to try Macrium Reflect to make backup images of my computers. However, I have one very important computer that I want to backup. This computer has no internet connection.
I have just downloaded Macrium on my laptop that I use for different testing. The download is about 45 MB. First thing was to create rescue CD/USB and during this process I had to allow Macrium to download additional components from the internet (25 MB something needed by PE).

My question is this:
What else I need to download besides Macrium Reflect Free in order to install it and use it offline on machine without internet connection?

On Machine on which I want to use it to make backup and rescue CD is WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit with SP1 installed.

Additional download during use of the Macrium application is out of question.

Thank you

Since you created the rescue disc, that's all you need. On the "off line" machine, boot the rescue disc and you can then back up (make disc image) of the hard drive on that machine to whatever backup media (drive) you want to use. e.g. if its a USB connected drive, connect it before booting the rescue disc. I've done it this way many times with Macrium.

Hi askic

As long as you have the installation program, there is nothing to get from internet.
Do note it is best to have both the installation program and bootable Reflect as means of backup.

You can also create a bootable copy, Reflect.

It is a good program as you can extract or view all files & folders in the Image file.

It is like a virtual drive with drive letter and able to read, copy, etc. as normal files & folders in the drive.

But i did not test as i don't use, but it have a Bootable USB Mini Tools Partition Wizard, for clone.

Thank you for your replies guys. In my case, I have created boot cd on win 7 32 bit and during the proces I was offered to add drivers for Nic and probably chipset (not really sure). During this process I was prompted to download win image (winpe.wim) or to give path to this, so I have choaen to download.

I need to make backup on the win 7 64 bit machine, so I am not sure whether this bootable ce will be suitable for this purpose because of two reasons:
1. boot cd is cretaed on win 7 32 bit home edition
2. boot cd is created by incorporating drivers from my test win 32 system.

I have so far only limited experience with acronis true image, and I want to be prepared before going into backuping with new software.

Any help and advice is highly appretiated.

Cheers!

Previous posters gave you great advice! The only I add is: for the offline computer, un-check the "check for updates" box somewhere within Macrium Reflect's menu, that way, you have one less nag message :) And, if you ever decide to give Image for Windows a try -- same thing there also.

This is not necessary for OP to indicate.

As OP meant to be use on the "important" computer which have no internet access.

OP just need to know on whether this application do required to have internet access or not.

OP also did the right thing in asking, as it is new to the application.
Refer to his very 1st paragraph.

Hello Roland,

I've just tried to download the Macrium on my wife's laptop and something strange has happened.
The OS on this laptop is win 10 64 bit and first file that is downloaded from Macriuem web page in only 3.4 MB for installation. When I clicked on this file, downloaded started that is big 853 MB
It's currently downloading WDAK x64 Components!? This for sure has nothing with update. I'll try in few hours this installation on this "offline" machine, but I have a bad feeling it will work.

Anyway, I'll let you know.

Cheers!

The 3.4 MB file is the ReflectDL.exe downloader
When you run it you can click on Options and choose what you want to download.
You can choose bit version, Reflect Installer Only, etc.
If you are saving the downloads for a different PC, Uncheck Run installer directly after downloading after selecting the options.

Hi,
Without the winpe components and creating the winpe recovery cd or flash media I'm not sure what good a system image is you wouldn't have the recovery tools made :)

The only reason I mentioned un-checking the "check for updates" is: since that particular MR can also reside on the off-line computer's hard-drive, that one does not need to check for updates. The usb or dvd boot - is moot, it never checks for updates :)

Hello guys,

just one more info. After following your advice in the download folder there are two files:
v6.3.1665_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe and pe10_1607x64.zip

One file is obviously needed for installation, and I wonder what about the second zipped file.
I know it is needed for so called Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment), but shout I also transfer this file ot the "offline" computer? How to install this second file on another computer?

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Make sure you can boot the offline PC with the rescue media you created on a different PC.
If you can, then you shouldn't really need the PE zip file on the offline PC.
If you can't, then get the correct downloads and copy them to the offline PC so you can create a recovery media for that PC.
See post #8 for how to get correct/specific downloads.

I would copy it anyway, just to have it available.

I don't know if/how you are going to update your systems when a new Macrium version is released.
Sometimes updating to a new Macrium version requires creating new recovery media.

Are you going to update to new Macrium versions on any or all systems when an update is available ?
