I have windows 7 desktop and a macbook pro os x leapord

1.) do i need to set my ip addresses manually, will they change on me? or should i just connect by computer name?

2.) I can connect to my PC on remote desktop from the mac no problem.. enabled everything on both OS's, but how do i connect to my mac from the windows 7 machine?

3.) Is remote desktop better than VNC? and do i need to connect to my mac from win7 w/ VNC?

i think thats about it, thanks to whoever can answer these few questions

1. As long as the DHCP server on the network [provided it's used in the first place] is set to never let IPs expire, yours will never change on the network.

2. I would use additional software in this case, namely VNC.

3. I like VNC more. Especially when crossing OS party lines. If both machines have it, you can use VNC to access either in the same general method.

i got ya, which software do u use for VNC and so a VNC is like setting the computer up as a server correct? and whoever connects to is a client? so basically ill be setting up both computers as a server?

do you have a good tut to follow to set both up for VNC? or can you explain here..? i like connecting the same way for both computers like you mentioned

negative - i read about VNC and many said it was slower than RDC.. ? on VNC can i drag and drop from one machine to another?

thanks for assisting me btw

I like RealVNC. Although I've actually paid for mine [pretty inexpensive] you can get a free version for small setups like yours.

RealVNC - VNC Free Edition 4.1

The setup is pretty straight forward. However, RealVNC only has one version for OS X and that's the Enterprise edition.

For OS X, give JollyFastVNC a whirl. JollysFastVNC

The setup may be different for the two servers/clients but by default you can just enter an IP address and off you go. Both sites have tutorials for setting up in your environment to your liking.

When I set RealVNC up on my network, I left it pretty much like it was out of the box and just punch in IP addresses because they never expire on my network.
