Dear all,

I named my windows7 machine after installion "D4RKWin7".
So everything running fine.

Suddenly I realized, that if I search on the Network (Workgroup) for this computer it will be displayed as "User-PC" so complet different name.

In my control panel it still says the name ist "D4RKWin7"

Anyway, I can access by \\D4RKWin7\C$ AND \\User-PC\C$ to that computer, but in the network list it's only shown as the "user-pc"

How did that happen and how can I get rid of this second name?

Thanks a lot,
D4RK

Hi,
thanks for your answer. Yes I did. Actually this says all the time "D4RKWin7" and I didnt changed anything. Nevertheless the name changed in the network. So I renamed to "D4RKTEMP" restarted, and renamed back to "D4RKWin7" - Still the same problem.

Remember there are two names used, the "Computer name" which I usually refer to as the machine name and also there is the "Computer description" name. I believe you have the two confused. One describes the computer and the other is used for the network.

It's easy to change them and it will be obvious which name is which after you follow this tutorial.
