It is a random occurrence with my iPhone and Kindle. When I plug them in, the computer starts going to sleep, but if I keep moving my finger over the touch pad, it will eventually stop. I have 3 USB ports on my Dell laptop and the problem seems to occur randomly with any of them. I have tried new cords and it still occurs randomly. It seems like the drivers are updated and working correctly. Any ideas?

I'm not sure, but you may try the following.

Do step 2 of this tutorial. If you still have issues, do this:

Go to your Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > and click on the "Device Manager" button.

In the Device Manager window, find the item or items labeled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Open it, and double-click the first item called "USB Root Hub." Repeat for all items if there is more than one.

In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog, click on the "Power Management" tab.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked by default. Uncheck this box, and click "OK."
