I want to install either win 7 or ubantu/wine on a virtual PC
I have setup my drives this way:

SSD: c:OS d:VBox and HDD e: data

Now I am not sure what to do. I assume I install Vbox and my OS images on d:

I am doing this really for my wife so she can run a browser and surf without causing any problems from malware.

However, while I have moved my users folder to the e: drive....a second physical drive, my virtual image will run on the SSD and favorites, etc will now write to the SSD which I would like to avoid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

It's normal that if you run the virtual machine, the data is written to the SSD (actually the virtual image on your SSD).

Compare it with a zip file you're gonna update. That requires your SSD/HDD is gonna write. The virtual image is almost the same. It's not more than a compressed file where your virtual machine is running on.

If this isn't the answer on your question, can you be more specific please, like this part?

Install the VBox to the SSD but configure it to use D for virtual machines.

Any data saved will go to the ssd. Can it be made to go to the second drive, data?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by saved data? If you mean the saved data inside the virtual OS, it will be saved to the virtual hard disk file (virtual disk image - vdi).

If you mean shared folders, I don't use them and just access the virtual machine through the network.

Can shared folders be placed on a separate drive if necessary
