Hi,

This is a HP 6720s notebook and HP didn't release Windows 7 drivers for it.

If you check this list on HP's official webpage, it has all the drivers for this notebook.

This computer did came with Vista.

So far, I thought of 2 plans. Let see:

- Option A:
Revert to Vista. (All drivers are for Vista 32 bit, so the driver problem would be solved.) But I don't really want Vista, as 7 is better.

- Option B:
Use Windows 7 with ALL the Vista drivers. Probably in compatibility mode when required.

I'd prefer Option B, but I'm interested in your opinions. I wonder if there are advantages of using Vista on this computer instead of 7.

I know it's possible to use Vista drivers on Windows 7. You probably have more experience on this than I do. Are they usually OK? Are problems common? Is it recommended at all?

(We have already discussed the graphics driver HERE) as multiple graphics drivers are available on HP's website, but all the other drivers are for Vista too.

My experience is a bit different, I just changed from Vista HB 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1525. The oem driver for the wan card was the only difficult one. Chip set and gpu I used Intel supplied drivers. The touch pad and peripherals all work with Microsoft drivers installed with the OS. I did have to use oem drivers for the card reader. I did struggle finding a wan driver that worked, but when I used the right search term it was a piece of cake.

Hi ish4d0w,

Most of the Vista drivers would work with Windows 7 as well. And for the ones not working you need to spend sometime to find the right driver. And also there is a possibility some driver might not be available and you have to downgrade to Windows Vista.

Also, I would suggest only to upgrade to Windows 7 if you are really keen to have the same and have the time that might be required to find compatible drivers. Otherwise you could use Windows Vista till the time it requires re install.

Also, you could check a similar thread which discuss drivers for your particular model:

I hope this information helped. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.
