Using Windows color Themes for Office 2010

I'm one of the guys that does not love Windows default colors. Too much candy. So one of the first things I did after installing Win7, was to add my old color scheme (improved wheat theme). As I did not like the transparency of Aero I disabled Aero as well. This worked wonderful and all programs immediately adapted to my theme.

All? No - there was on single manufacturer, who did not follow the windows standards and decided I had to use 1 of 3 lousy themes he offered me. Well, you all know it is MS, with (most) Office programs! I found no way around this and cursed in the past years many times, when I selected the wrong windows due to this stupidity. I uses this word, as it never pays off to violate standards. And the usage of windows themes by all programs was always such a standard!

However I accepted this as inevitable, as I found no way to change the office colors. Until yesterday! By some system glitch the ugly MS colors disappeared and Word, Excel and Access show up in the colors they should. This even includes Access-Forms!

I attached a Ribbon in 'my' Colors and a Standard one (from an other System, for comparison). As you can see the colors are changed. If you carefully look at the two ribbons, you will notice, that not all icons are HiRez. It is my impression, that older icons look bad, while newer ones look perfect. My assumption is, that the Office applications somehow think they run in a lower resolution and try to load the icons accordingly, but execute a 'fallforward' if they can not find the LowRez icons...

I have no idea if this behaviour will be persistent as soon as I boot the machine. However as I see now that it can work I wonder: Is there anyone/anytool that can reach this effect in a reproducible way?

Nice! Have you figured out how you did that? Did it stick upon reboot?

Inquiring minds want to know!

In principle it should not work because Office has it's own theme. If e.g. you use a high contrast theme for your system, Office will not work (which in itself is strange - the left hand does not know what the right hand does). So it would be really interesting to know what happened in this case here.
