Hi all,

I wanted to know if my laptop ( Vaio - FZ 260E) supports 64 bit windows 7 or not?
And if yes is it necessary to upgrade to windows 64 bit? Because I've bought 4GB Ram memory and it is said that my windows version only uses 3GB of it.

my laptop config is:
CPU: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7250
Mainboard: Intel PM965
Currently Ram: 2 1GB DDR2 Rams and I want to upgrade to 2 2GB rams. (my mainboard has 2 slots)

P.S. I run Windows 7 upgrade Advisor tool and it seems there is no problem with upgrading to windows 7 64 bit and all of my drivers are recognized by it. I wonder is it really possible to have a 64 bit OS in 32 bit CPU?

To find out type Resource Monitor in Start Search box. Choose the Memory tab, see a chart of how your RAM is apportioned. Some will be reserved for hardware like video.

For 4gb I would stick with 32 bit, but it is a dividing line so you can certainly try 64 bit if you want to check its performance and how RAM is utilitized.

You can even shrink your C partition in Disk Mgmt to try a test install of 64 bit in a Dual Boot. Be sure to boot the 64 bit installer to Clean Install Windows 7. If you decide to keep 64 bit, we can help you remove 32 bit later.

Sony has drivers for the VGN-FZ260E:

Sony eSupport - VGN-FZ260E - Support

Also, your T7250 supports 64 bit instructions:

Intel® Core)

4GB of RAM may not justify moving to X64. Does it matter to you that no upgrade-in-place is permitted? (You'd have to re-install every program.)

It is better for me not to install all of programs. But, it is not a big deal for me and if there is a huge performance difference I will accept this risk.
According to your posts, it will not have much performance difference, So, I will keep my 32-bit windows running.
Thank you guys.
